The Sabha was formed to promote the social, economic, political, cultural, educational and general welfare of Christians in particular and the citizens in general.

The Patron of the Sabha is the Archbishop of Bombay. The Sabha has 2 types of membership viz. 'Life' with a membership fee of Rs. 100/- and an entrance fee of Rs. 10/- and 'Annual' with a membership fee of Rs. 10/- and a onetime entrance fee of Rs. 10/-. Over the years, the Sabha has grown from strength to strength and the panorama of services include the 'We Care' Campaign for Kargil, the 'Mumbaites for Orrisa' campaign for the Cyclone victims, 'Gujarat Earthquake Relief' and the 'Campaign for Communal Harmony' during the nerve shattering experiences in Gujarat last year. The Bombay Catholic Sabha (OLGC - Sion Unit) operates as one of the units of the Sabha.
